A LOVER OF HISTORY AND TIMELESS WORKS OF ART, ROMERO BRITTO PRAISES THE HOPE DIAMOND AND ITS ETERNAL BEAUTY WITH THIS PRINT. SOLD IN 1668 BY JEAN-BAPTISTE TAVERNIER TO KING LOUIS XIV IN FRANCE, THE BLUE DIAMOND WAS STORED IN A DISPLAY CABINET IN VERSAILLES FOR THE ADMIRATION OF HIS SPECIAL GUESTS. FROM THERE, THE DIAMOND WAS OWNED BY NOBLE FAMILIES INCLUDING HENRY PHILIP HOPE IN THE 1830’S, FROM WHOM THE DIAMOND TAKES ITS NAME. FINALLY IN 1974, THE DIAMOND WAS DONATED BY HARRY WINSTON TO THE SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM IN WASHINGTON D.C. WHERE IT RESIDES TODAY.
